Limerick choir ancor return to St Marys Cathedral for Christmas concert

The well established multi-award winning Limerick choir Ancor is set to play in St. Marys Cathedral for their annual Christmas concert this Thursday, December 15 at 8pm.

Limerick choir Ancor will be performing an array of much loved Christmas classics with something to suit all tastes.

The concert will this year feature two major works – German baroque Magnificat by CPE Bach, the son of the famous composer Johan Sebestian Bach and a Christmas cantata by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi.

The choir which originally started out with a mere 13 members has progressed to an impressive 35 member mixed voice choir after celebrating its tenth anniversary last year.

The audience will be graced with traditional mulled wine and delicious mince pies during the interval to create a Christmas atmosphere.

In preparation for a trip to Slovenia in the summer of 2017, the choir will be staging a number of concerts throughout the country over the coming months.

Ancór was established in 2005 ago by musical director Cecilia Madden. The choir has performed extensively throughout Ireland and abroad.

Ancór Chamber Choir was founded in 2005 and now comprises of 30 members. In June of this year, the choir traveled to Italy where they performed in San Michele e Gaetano in Florence, with concerts ICKSP Seminary at Gricigliano and St George’s Anglican Church in Venice.

Ancor’s CD, ‘Sing Joyfully’ is also now available from both O’ Mahony’s Bookshop and the Hunt Museum, Limerick while stocks last.

Tickets for this highly anticipated concert are on sale at €18 or at a reduced rate of €15 for students and seniors and can be purchased here or by calling 061-229956. There may also be some tickets available on the night in St. Marys Cathedral.
