Among the Limerick choirs taking part in the Limerick Choral Festival, 2019 will be the Limerick Educate Together NS Choir, Thomond Primary School Choir, Milford N.S. Choir, Chimers, and St. John’s Cathedral Choir. Augmented by choirs from Clare, Galway, Kilkenny, Waterford, Mayo, Offaly, Dublin, Cork, and Tipperary, a total contingent of over 55 choirs will make up this year’s event – performing a variety of choral pieces ranging from church/sacred music, gospel to early music and various contemporary compositions of all types.

One of the highlights of this year’s activities of the Limerick Choral Festival 2019 will be the Opening Concert to take place on Friday, March 1 at 8:00 pm in St. Mary’s Cathedral, where the Limerick Chamber Choir will perform Joby Talbot’s masterpiece, ‘PATH OF MIRACLES’ under the very capable direction of Máire Keary Scanlon. Dividing into as many as seventeen parts, ‘Path of Miracles’ takes both choir and audience on a musical version of the Camino di Santiago in Northern Spain. Written in four movements, it describes the different emotions of the pilgrim as they make their way through four of the main posts along the journey. Tickets are €20/€15 and can be bought on the door. Doors open from 7:30 pm.

Another significant event will be the Closing Organ Concert in Sacred Heart Church (The Crescent) on Sunday, March 3 (5 pm) by resident organist, Mr Trevor Selby. Admission is free – but a retiring donation would be most appreciated.

Dr Michael O’Brien, President of Limerick Choral Festival Society expresses his deep appreciation to all those who have actively supported this year’s event or assisted in any way to make up such a significant programme of events.

All competitions and associated events over the festival weekend are open to the general public, so do please come along and enjoy the wonderful singing.
