Limerick City Special Olympics Sports Club is delighted to announce its upcoming Fundraising Table Quiz on Thursday, April 17 at the Greenhills Hotel, Limerick. This exciting event promises an evening of fun, friendly competition, and community spirit — all in support of our amazing athletes.

Founded in 2009, Limerick City Special Olympics Sports Club has grown to become one of the largest Special Olympics clubs in the region, now boasting over 80 athletes competing in Basketball, Athletics, and Swimming. Supported by a dedicated team of 25+ volunteers, the club offers vital sporting and social opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities, training four nights a week and regularly competing at local, regional, national, and even international levels.

In 2024, four of the Limerick City Special Olympics’ swimmers proudly represented Ireland at an international competition in Monaco — a testament to the hard work and dedication of our athletes and volunteers.

The group invite local businesses and individuals to support this fantastic event in a number of ways, including sponsoring a Round – For €250, businesses can sponsor a round of quiz questions and receive prominent exposure on the night; your logo on event materials; Recognition on their social media platforms; and a meaningful contribution to your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts.

They can also support the fundraiser by entering a team with organisers saying, “Gather friends, family, or colleagues and enter a team of four for a fun-filled evening.” They are also looking for spot Prize sponsors for the event with the group saying, “Help make our raffle a success by donating prizes.”

Every euro raised directly supports the athletes and helps cover essential costs. In 2024, generous donations funded €8,000 on transport to competitions – the group’s largest annual expense, €7,500 for pool rental for the swimming programme, €5,500 for international competition participation, €5,000 for training equipment and kits, and €2,500 for social and fundraising events.

Urging people to get involved, Limerick City Special Olympics Sports Club said, “Your support makes it possible for our athletes to continue achieving their dreams, forming friendships, and representing Limerick on local, national, and international stages.

“To sponsor a round, enter a team, or donate a prize, please contact Kevin Moloney at 085 122 6929 or [email protected]

You can also support the athletes by donating on their iDonate page.

The organisers say, “Let’s come together on April 17th to celebrate our athletes and the spirit of the Special Olympics. See you at the Greenhills Hotel!”
