Limerick book their spot in 2026 All-Ireland Series with thrilling win over Waterford
Limerick defeat Waterford to book their spot in the 2026 All-Ireland Series.
Limerick are set for All-Ireland action this summer as they defeat Waterford, but still all to play for in the 2026 Munster Senior Hurling Championship

The Limerick senior hurlers have guaranteed All-Ireland Championship hurling this summer following their 2-29 to 2-20 win over Waterford, but a place in the Munster Final is still up for grabs as they host the 2025 All-Ireland champions, Tipperary on Sunday, June 24.
Limerick were quick out of the gates in front of 22,124 supporters at the TUS Gaelic Grounds with two scores in the opening minute, and pulling three points ahead of Waterford early on. The Déise fought on, keeping the score within touching distance, until drawing level for the first time in the 18th minute and going on to take a lead, making what they could with the breeze in their favour for the first half.
Limerick found themselves trailing by one point at half time with the sides going in 0-15 to 0-16. With 37 minutes gone, Waterford tacked on the first score of thesecond half before Limerick began to add points of their own, but it looked like it would be a difficult day for the Treaty men as Waterfords Kevin Mahony scored the first goal of the game to put the Déise ahead once again 0-18 to 1-17.
Limerick surged on in the second half with goals from Peter Casey and Gearóid Hegarty making an uphill battle for the Waterford team as Limerick continued to add on scores throughout the second half. With the score at 2-29 to 1-20, a late penalty for a Waterford team who continued to fight brought the final score to 2-29 to 1-20.
The result marks the end of Championship hurling for Waterford, but Limerick have All-Ireland action to look forward to; and a victory over Tipperary on Sunday, May 24 will see them face either Cork or Clare in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday, June 7.
Limerick take on Tipperary at the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday, May 24 at 4 pm while Cork, in first place with 6 points, face Clare, in third place with 4 points, at 4 pm at Parc Uí Chaoimh on the same day.
