Limerick Dragons call on politicians to pledge support to Secure Medical Cards for Breast Cancer Patients
Limerick Dragons call for all local politicians in the forthcoming election to pledge their support to commit to lobbying for Breast Cancer patients to be entitled to medical cards
Limerick Dragons are seeking the support of all our local politicians in the forthcoming election to pledge their support if elected to commit to lobbying for Breast Cancer patients to be entitled to medical cards.
Limerick Dragons are a Breast Cancer Survivors sports group which aims to support each other after breast cancer treatment through paddling and social interactions.
This is a cause that is close to the hearts of the group as many of its members have been affected by being refused a medical card while undergoing treatment.
Breast cancer patients across the country face financial burdens that jeopardize their ability to receive critical medical treatments, follow-up care, and mental health support. A medical card would alleviate these challenges by covering costs related to medications, therapy, diagnostics, and other necessary health services.
“Breast cancer patients should not have to choose between their health and their financial stability. A medical card would provide vital support, allowing patients to focus on healing without the added stress of medical bills,” said Amanda Jordan, PRO of the Limerick Dragons and breast cancer survivor.
Limerick Dragons are holding a lobbying morning on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 10.00 am in No. 1 Pery Square and cordially invite all politicians, members of the dragon communities nationally, and fellow breast cancer survivors to join them.
Limerick Dragons was formed in 2016 by a group of breast cancer survivors and their supporters. Much fundraising was done and in 2017 they purchased their first dragon boat. They paddle on the River Shannon and launch the boat on the slipway on O’Callaghan Strand. Some days if you are driving along the road near Cleeves Carpark you will see them taking the boat down to the water to launch. They are quite the sight when moving the 40-foot dragon boat with up to 22 paddlers to the Shannon.
