Limerick Eagles basketball players soar to the International stage

Limerick Eagles stars, Steve King, Neil Campbell, and Darragh Horkan, pull on the Irish jersey with coach Tommy Walsh guiding the way on the international stage

Limerick basketball players, Steve King, Neil Campbell, and Darragh Horkan, are representing Ireland on the International stage.

Steve and Neil are representing Limerick at the 2026 FIBA Masters tournament in Greece as part of the Over-40 Irish Masters team, with Horkan being announced as a member of the under-20 team travelling to Bratislava for the European Championships.

Coach Tommy Walsh also gets a nod as he leads the under-20 team in the European Championships.

The Limerick Eagles players and coach are all coming off the back of an exceptional season, which saw them earn a double in silverware with the National Cup and secure promotion back to the Superleague.

Limerick Lions Basketball and the Limerick Eagles wished the players and coach the best of luck in the tournament as they fly the national flag while representing the Limerick contingent.

They said, “Steve has been a hugely important figure within the club and has just come off an excellent season with Limerick Eagles, where his experience and leadership were pivotal in helping the team win the National Cup and secure promotion back to the Superleague.

“His presence on and off the court made a real difference throughout the season, and it is fantastic to see him now representing Ireland at international level.”

Adding about Darragh, “Darragh heads into the tournament after an outstanding season with Limerick Lions and Limerick Eagles, where he played a major role in the club’s success and was deservedly recognised with Young Player of the Year honours.

“We are all very proud to see Darragh representing Ireland once again and we will be following his progress closely from home.”

Acknowledging Neil Campbell’s contribution to the game since his retirement, the club noted his impact on the youth setup, saying, “Neil has also brought his experience and enthusiasm into our junior academy programme, where he has been doing fantastic work with our youngest players. The kids absolutely love the sessions he runs, and his impact at academy level has been excellent.”

Speaking about Coach Tommy Walsh, the club said, “Now entering his fourth European Championships as Head Coach of the Ireland U20 Men’s National Team, Tommy once again takes the reins on the European stage, with Ireland’s opening game taking place this Saturday.

“Tommy’s knowledge, leadership and commitment to Irish basketball are widely respected, and we are very proud to see one of our own leading Ireland at this level.”
