The operational Excellence award honours aviation organisations in Ireland that have demonstrated exceptional operational performance over the past year, celebrating those who set industry benchmarks in efficiency, customer service, sustainability and global competitiveness.

Commenting on the win, HR Director of The Shannon Airport Group, Chris O’Donovan said: “We are delighted to receive this Aviation Industry Award for Operational Excellence as it recognises our commitment to really important areas such as innovation, customer service improvements, growth and sustainability initiatives. It’s a fantastic reflection of the dedication shown every day by our team, who consistently place passengers, safety and customer experience at the heart of everything they do.”

The group were also shortlisted for the Excellence in People & Workplace Culture Award, which saw Aer Lingus announced as the overall winner on the evening.

Following the award announcement, Limerick Flying Club said on Facebook the club was “thrilled” to have been announced as winners. They said, “We were announced as winners of the General and Sport Aviation Category at the Awards ceremony on Friday. However, the biggest surprise was when we were also announced as the overall winners as Aviation Company of the Year.

“This was determined by comparing the aggregate scores of each of the 13 category winners where we had achieved the highest winning score. The categories included multiple sectoral services including HR, Women in Aviation, airport operations, technology, environmental and innovation amongst others.

“This is fantastic recognition for general aviation in Ireland and the members of Limerick Flying Club based at Coonagh.”

This latest win for Shannon Airport builds on The Shannon Airport Group’s recent success at the Chambers Ireland Awards, where it won the Environment & Biodiversity category for its Thady’s Hill conservation grazing project. In July the Group also celebrated retaining its position as Ireland’s top airport brand for the third consecutive year in the RED C Brand Reaction Index (BRI) Ireland 2025. The Group is also nominated for Public Enterprise of the Year at the upcoming Business & Finance Awards, which take place next Thursday at the Convention Centre, Dublin.

Launched in 2014, the Aviation Industry Awards are the benchmark for excellence, recognising best practice and innovation across Ireland’s aviation sector.
