The Limerick Senior Footballers have been congratulated on their National Football League title win ahead of their Munster Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final on Saturday, April 5

The team, led by Jimmy Lee, overcame Wexford at Croke Park by 3-11 to 0-18 following a see-saw battle with Limerick taking their chances in front of goal, getting the team over the line.

Following the game, Limerick Senior Men’s Football manager, Jimmy Lee, said the achievement is “humongous for the boys inside there”.

The Limerick manager noted some of the panel would have appeared for the team in the 2022 final where Limerick faced Louth in what was a busy year for the Treaty men, and again finishing top of their division under Billy Lee in 2020.

Jimmy Lee said, “ To win silverware is momentous for them. I am absolutely trilled for them. It’s massive for these LEDs and youngsters.”

Limerick City & County Council is congratulated the Limerick senior footballers following their victory in the Division Four National Football League final at the weekend.

Limerick will now ply their trade in Division 3 of the National Football League in 2026.

The team will now turn their attentions to their Munster Senior Football Championship campaign, which begins with a quarter-final clash against Cork at the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday.

Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, commented, “Congratulations to our senior footballers, led by Jimmy Lee, on their victory in securing Division 4 of the National Football League. It shows that Limerick is truly a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the field! Winning such a tight game is a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication, and lifting silverware in Croke Park makes it all the sweeter. I have no doubt that greater accomplishments lie ahead for this talented group. I wish the team the very best of luck in their Munster championship encounter with Cork this weekend and would encourage as many supporters as possible to back the team in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday evening.”

This victory is a testament to teamwork and perseverance.  The Limerick footballers are continuing to bring immense pride to our community, and their success will hopefully inspire future generations of footballers and athletes across the city and county. It’s clear how much the victory means to them and all of us here in Limerick, and best of luck to them as they embark on the All-Ireland series.
