Limerick Gardaí have launched the inaugural Limerick Garda Youth Awards 2014 in association with Garveys SuperValu New Castle West and Corbally.

The initiative aims to recognise and honour the great work young people between the ages of 14 and 19 are doing in communities in Limerick, and through their efforts have improved their communities for everyone.

Garda Niamh Briggs said: “It’s an absolutely fantastic initiative, to get the Gardaí and local youths together is always positive. I look forward to meeting the award winners.”

The awards are open to any young person living within the Limerick Garda Division, and members of the public, as well as family members and relatives, are encouraged to put forward nominations of any young person they feel are having a positive impact on their communities. Nominations are however confined to individuals, with exceptions of the Special Achievements Award for which either an individual or a group of young people may be nominated.

The inaugural Limerick Garda Youth Awards will be presented at a gala dinner at the Woodlands House Hotel on Thursday, November 27, 2014.

There will be a total of nine awards being presented on the night. These are respectively, four overall award winners, the Special Achievements Award, as well as one winner each from the four Garda districts in Limerick.

In addition every nominee will receive a certificate to honour their nomination and to recognise the great work they continuously do in their communities.

The closing date for receipt of nominations is Friday, October 24, 2014. Forms are to be submitted to Juvenile Liaison Office Mayorstone Garda Station, Limerick, or your local Garda Station.

Further information can be acquired from the Juvenile Liaison Office Mayorstone Garda Station, Limerick at 061 456986

Application forms are now available at all local Garda stations and in the SuperValu and Centra stores in Newcastle West and Corbally, Limerick.
