Parents will spend an average of €350 for a child in senior infants, €400 for children in 4^th class and €785 for a child going into 1^st year.

Limerick’s Gateway to Education aims to ease the financial burden on families by providing affordable school uniforms, books, school supplies, and afterschool private tuition for primary and secondary school children in Limerick City and its environs.

From their charity shop at 9 Wickham St., Limerick, they sell almost new primary and secondary school uniforms, books and school supplies at affordable prices for all. By donating all your children’s wearable uniforms, text books, revision books, exam papers, school supplies such as set-squares, T-squares, maths sets and school bags you are investing in primary and secondary school children in Limerick City area.

All proceeds from the charity shop are invested in the education of local children through their Afterschool Homework Club. This club provides primary and secondary school children in Limerick with extra tuition and guidance. Primary and secondary school after school clubbers work on a one-to-one basis with student volunteers from their three third level institutions. This work is overseen by retired teachers.

The Limerick Gateway to Education charity promotes education as a fundamental right for all children regardless of who they are, where they come from and most importantly whether or not they have the funds to pay for their education. They are also very aware that education is a costly business and many children are denied this right because of a lack of money or the lack of educational opportunities afforded to their parents. The Limerick Gateway to Education with your support attempts to overcome these particular barriers through their shop as well as the after school Homework Club.

In September 2014, as a temporary measure our Homework Club will be moving to a new space in the University of Limerick. This exciting opportunity will put them right at the heart of education in Limerick City and give us the time to secure an appropriate city premises.
