With over €90,000 spent and 177 businesses signed up across Limerick City and County, the initiative has already proven to be a powerful boost for local businesses and the community. And it has the power to do much more before the year is over.

The Limerick Gift Card stands out as the perfect Christmas gift. It offers the recipient the freedom to choose from a variety of local businesses, ensuring they get exactly what they want. The Limerick Gift Card, available as both a physical card and an e-card, was launched to encourage local spending and support the vibrant business community in Limerick. The card can be used in a wide range of participating businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and service providers, making it a versatile and convenient gift option.

With zero commission for businesses to accept the card and no additional cost to the purchaser, every euro gifted will be a euro back in our local economy.

By availing of the Government’s Small Benefit Exemption, a Limerick Gift Card pre-loaded with up to €1000 is an ideal tax free gift from businesses to their employees, ensuring the value stays in Limerick.

Local businesses that have supported the Limerick Gift Card with Corporate Orders include The Savoy Hotel, Texas Steak Out, Connolly Man, Arthur’s Quay Shopping Centre (TCE Management Ltd. -Tiernan Properties), Gleeson Sports, Dell and Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel.

The fact that over €90,000 has already been spent is a clear indication of the community’s support for local businesses. The Limerick Gift Card is part of the multi-award-winning Town & City Gift Card concept, which has been successful in various regions across Ireland. The initiative is backed by Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Chamber, with the aim of locking in spending within the local economy and attracting new spending to the area.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
