The Limerick Sports Partnership would like to extend huge congratulations to the Limerick Go for Life Team who were crowned Winners of Pool A at the National 2017 Go for Life Games in DCU, Dublin.
This event was the culmination of a yearlong programme that motivated participants to engage in sport and physical activity. Go for Life involves three games Scidils, Flisk and Lobbers and encourages people to get moving while socialising with teammates.
The programme is specifically designed around fun while also incorporating healthy competition.
The Go for Life Games programmes has grown in popularity over the past number of years and to ensure that these activities are available throughout the county the Limerick Sports Partnership has developed Older Adult Community Hubs in seven locations across Limerick city and county, these hubs are located in Ballybrown/ Clarina, Our Lady of Lourdes, St Munchin’s, Newcastle West, Killeedy, Irish Wheelchair Association and Croom.
The Limerick Sports Partnership also collaborates with LIT Sports Management and Sports Development students to provide an additional venue for adults over the age of 55 to get involved in the Northside of Limerick.
This programme enables the Limerick Sports Partnership to make sports students aware of the importance of developing programmes to include participants of all ages and help them understand ways and means of encouraging older adults to get involved in sport and physical activity. Thus, ensuring the next generation of sports coaches are experienced in developing programmes for people over the age of 55 years.
