Having eclipsed the initial goal of €200,000, the fundraisers are now more than €240,000 towards the goal of €250,000 for Carol Liston O’Connor and her family

17th December 2024: In 2024, Limerick stood out as one of Ireland’s most generous counties on GoFundMe, coming second to Galway and contributing significantly to the nearly €50 million raised nationwide.

This remarkable generosity supported a wide array of causes, from rebuilding homes after devastating fires to funding critical medical treatments for children. In addition, Ireland has been crowned the most generous country in the world, according to GoFundMe’s official 2024 Year in Help Report.

The Treaty City joined Cork and Waterford in representing Munster as the most generous province in Ireland. Limerick’s fundraising campaigns touched countless lives, supporting everything from urgent medical treatments to family relief efforts.

Limerick was beaten to the top spot by Galway and Cork, Waterford, and Dublin made up the three remaining top 5 places.

    The crowdfunding platform revealed that almost €50 million was raised for countless life-changing causes across Ireland this year. From charity funding to supporting families in crisis, the nation’s spirit of giving has never been more evident.

    In 2024, more than 15,000 fundraisers were launched across Ireland, with more than 850,000 donations. Globally, an average of two donations were made every second. 

    Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
