Welcoming the campaign, Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Jim Long said every citizen in Limerick should make Going for Gold their top priority this Summer.
“To prevent litter in our city we all need to look to our own habits and ask ourselves — Do I throw litter on the street? Stash sweet-wrappers in hedges? Stub out cigarette butts outside shop, restaurants or bars? Or do I put my litter in a bin. The only way to solve the litter problem is for each of us as individuals to change our behaviour and put our litter in a bin,” said Mayor Long. “This is a wonderful campaign which will make a real difference to our environment and we are once again truly grateful to JP for coming on board to support our efforts to make Limerick truly litter free.”
JP McManus said as a proud Limerick man he wanted to support and be involved in the 2012 Going for Gold campaign.
“Like the Tidy Towns concept, Going for Gold is a simple but powerful idea where people can make a difference to their own area and make it a better place to live, work and visit,” he said. “The JP McManus Charitable Foundation is delighted to provide local communities here in Limerick city with an incentive to get together, improve their own areas and enjoy and reap the benefits that participation can bring. We want to assist in the creation of a cleaner city in Limerick and the JP McManus Charitable Foundation has committed a sum of cleaner city in Limerick and the JP McManus Charitable Foundation has committed a sum of €150,000 in support of the cleaner city initiative for the entire year of 2012.”
