GoingForGoldLaunchLaur-9The Limerick Going for Gold Campaign is underway.  Communities and other groups are playing their part in making Limerick a better place to live work and visit.   Going for Gold aims to raise awareness of environmental issues, get people involved in their own areas, make a physical difference in communities and encourages people to have fun while volunteering!

“I would encourage as many people as possible to get out there, get involved and lets make Limerick a cleaner and greener place to live.  Enter the Going for Gold Community Challenge Category, nominate someone for  an Individual Merit Award.  or enter the Garden Competition.  Support your area if they are in the Tidy Towns Category”.

“Going for Gold is a simple but powerful idea where people can volunteer and make a difference to their own area and make it a better place to live.” he said. “The JP McManus Charitable Foundation is delighted to provide local communities here in Limerick city with an incentive to get together, improve their own areas and enjoy and reap the benefits that participation can bring.”

“Making Limerick a cleaner, brighter place to work live and visit is the focus of the Limerick Going for Gold Campaign.  The Councils’ will continue to work with communities and support them where possible to achieve this aim.  I would encourage  everyone to get out there and get involved in Going for Gold 2013.”

There are four categories in the Going for Gold 2013 campaign with a prize fund of €50K to be divided between the ‘group’ Going for Gold categories:

1.         Tidy Towns

2.         Community Challenge   (groups not participating in Tidy Towns)

3.         Individual Merit Award

4.         Most Beautiful Front Garden (sponsored by the Parkway Shopping Centre)

Three categories are still open:

1. Community Challenge Category (Groups not participating in Tidy Towns)

The Community Challenge Category is for Groups not participating in Tidy Towns. If you have a positive initiative happening in your community then download a Community Challenge Category  Application form from Limerick.ie/goingforgold.  The Community Challenge Category is open to all community groups and resident associations from Limerick City and environs.

2. Individual Merit Award.

If  you would like to acknowledge someone’s (adult or child) individual commitment to making their community a cleaner and brighter place to live, Going for Gold want to hear about it.

All you need to do is complete the Going for Gold application form.  Download the form from

•          www.limerick.ie/goingforgold/  or

•          Email [email protected] or

•          Phone 496367 and an application will be forwarded to you.

3.         Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition (Garden must be visible from the Public Road)

To enter the Going for Gold Garden Competition and be in with a chance to win a share of a prize fund to the value of €1,000 sponsored by the Parkway Shopping Centre send a

•          Completed application form and

•          Maximum of 3 photos to

Closing Date for Community Challenge Category, Individual Merit Award and  Most Beautiful Front Garden Competition is Friday 16th August, 2013

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
