The Limerick Gospel Choir held a press launch on Tuesday, May 3 in the Clayton Hotel, Limerick to unveil their long-awaited new choir gowns. The award-winning choir, who have been part of Limerick’s Choral community for the past 18 years, have always been recognized with their vibrant red and blue colours and their new gowns keep this theme in hand with the addition of a new design.
The choir showcased their new gowns in The Clayton’s beautiful Pegasus Suite, surrounded by family and friends with special guest for the evening Deputy Mayor of Limerick City and County, Cllr Tom Ruddle. He said a few words about the choir and their accomplishments before attendees were treated to a number of soulful songs.
The idea for new gowns first came about in 2018, however as a voluntary group that relies on fundraising, and members fees to cover basic costs, the project took an extra bit of effort to get off the ground. They held a successful table quiz fundraiser and choir member John Guerin, an employee of Analog Devices, put the choir forward for an Analog Community Beneficiary Fund donation, which really got the ball rolling.
It took the choir a lot of time, planning and preparation to decide on an initial design and find a source to produce the gowns, however, the endeavour was a success thanks to two instrumental members of the choir, Regina Fitzgerald and John Guerin.
Now that Limerick Gospel Choir is back to rehearsals after the pandemic and has acquired new gowns, they have a lot to look forward to in the months and years ahead, bringing choral music to the public at many events to come.
