Limerick Greenway’s accessible 40km off-road experience is gearing up for another year of West Limerick welcomes

Limerick Greenway’s accessible 40km off-road experience is gearing up for another year of West Limerick welcomes. Following the opening of a new facility at the Limerick Greenway Hub @ Rathkeale in 2025, exciting plans are also underway for additional hubs in 2026 — further enhancing this world-class outdoor offering.

Families, groups and individuals are invited to do Limerick Greenway their way — walk, run, cycle or wheel — this spring for a unique outdoor experience. The scenic 40km route winds through the beautiful West Limerick countryside, showcasing rich heritage, local biodiversity and warm hospitality along the way.

Designed with mobility in mind, Limerick Greenway is safe and suitable for visitors of all ages and abilities. Thoughtfully planned pathways and facilities create an inclusive environment where families, friends and solo adventurers can connect with nature — and with each other.

Following the historic Limerick–Kerry railway line, five welcoming hub towns and villages — Rathkeale, Ardagh, Newcastle West, Barnagh and Abbeyfeale — sit along the route, making it easy to plan short strolls or full-day cycling adventures. Visitors can begin their journey in Rathkeale or join at any entry point along the way, with the option to continue seamlessly from Abbeyfeale across the Limerick–Kerry border to Listowel.

Located under an hour from Kerry, Clare and Shannon Airport, under two hours from Galway and less than three hours from Dublin, West Limerick is the perfect base for any Irish break. After your Greenway adventure, relax in nearby towns or continue exploring everything the region has to offer.

Limerick City and County Council continue to enhance visitor facilities along Limerick Greenway, as more people choose this recreational outdoor amenity as their go-to activity.
