Award-winning Lumen Street Theatre brings ‘Samhain’, Limerick Halloween Festival 2019 to the streets of medieval Limerick between Thursday October 24 and Saturday October 26.

They will create a parade of light in the medieval quarter of the city with a procession of lanterns made by several communities such as St. Michael’s NS, Limerick School Project, The Learning Hub, and St. Mary’s NS. They will showcase Street Theatre and Spectacle performed by members of Limerick Youth Theatre, the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s community music programme ‘Sing Out with Strings’, service users from The Daughters of Charity Service Limerick, including performances by Blue Frog Circus Toys and Curious State.

To celebrate this magical time of year the light-filled spectacle will include fire performance, a Death Café by Jennifer Moran Stritch, talks based on the philosophy behind ‘Pagan Rave’ by Billy Mag Fhloinn, traditional stories by Eddie Lenihan and an evening plunge into the cool waters of our city’s River Shannon by SwimableLimerick.
‘Samhain’, Limerick Halloween Festival 2019 will be launched on Monday, September 30 at 6 PM, at Ormston House, Limerick.

Martin Shannon, Artistic Director of Lumen Street Theatre said, “In 2018, Samhain illustrated that the festival was wholeheartedly embraced by the community of St. Mary’s and beyond. We aim to build on last year’s success with another parade, on Saturday, October 26, as the highlight with the Bishop’s Lady specter at its heart. We are inviting all of Limerick to come and watch and/or to take part in the light-filled procession through the medieval quarter and brave the ghosts, ghouls, and spooks on the way. The Festival aims to illuminate Halloween and to celebrate Irish folklore and traditions. We want to reclaim Halloween and make Limerick ‘the’ destination for the weekend.”

Limerick Halloween Festival 2019 comes to the streets of medieval Limerick between Thursday October 24 and Saturday October 26.

‘Samhain’, Limerick’s Halloween Festival in its inception, was, and will always be, about engaging with the local communities of our city. Lumen Street Theatre is back with an even more diverse and varied programme of activities and events this October.

Martin continued, “This year’s festival is not to be missed unless you want to draw the scorn of the Bishop’s Lady.”

‘Samhain’, Limerick Halloween Festival 2019 is presented by Lumen Street Theatre and funded by Limerick City and County Council and the Heritage Council of Ireland.

Lumen Street Theatre Company was established in 2016 to bring street spectacle to Limerick city. Its aim is to engage with the community and public through workshops; performances and the creation of street theatre by working closing with existing ensembles, arts organizations, and community groups.
