Limerick Jazz Festival 2015 is celebrating its fourth year, presenting some of the finest local and international artists this coming weekend. Limerick will host a range of events from 25^th – 27^th

Friday, September 25^th

Paul Dunlea Big Band will be celebrating its 100^th birthday of Sinatra, with special guests Paul Jost and Tony Miceli/USA.

Paul Dunlea, Cork trombonist/Composer/Arranger, formed the band in 2012 to have a creative outlet for his own compositions.

The group is no stranger to success, having performed for crowds at the Cork Opera House.

Perico Sambeat –

Alto saxophonist Perico Sambeat, one of Spain’s greatest jazz musicians, will perform with Phil Ware Trio. Known worldwide, Sambeat has made over 20 albums as a leader and more than 100 as a sideman.

The Phil Ware Trio will also be performing in Dolan’s on the 27^th. This trio, having greatly contributed to Irish jazz, included Phil Ware on the piano, Dave Redmond on the double Bass and Kevin Brady on drums.

Saturday, September 26^th –

The Jost Project Septet

Paul Jost, singer, musician, arranger and composer, has been performing worldwide in recent years, with a regular date at the famed Jazz Club in New York, 55 Bar.

The band, launched by vibraphonist Tony Miceli and bassist Kevin MacConnell, with Paul as the vocalist and arranger, their aim is to reach new audiences for jazz.

The night will include; Paul Jost/Vocals – Tony Miceli/Bass – Richie Buckley/Sax – Linley Hamilton/Trumpet – Paul Dunlea/Trombone – Dan Bodwell/Bass – John Daly/Drums.

Brian Priestley Sextet – A Canonball Adderley Tribute

Brian Priestley, having recently relocated to Ireland, has led his own groups since the 1970’s. Now a regular tutor at Sligo Jazz Project has lectured on jazz history and also presents a weekly one-hour slot on Radio Kerry, called ‘That’s Jazz’.

Linley Hamilton –

Linley Hamilton, having performed and recorded with big names like Paul Brady, Van Morrisson and Gareth Dunlop, is now celebrating success with his own recent album ‘Taylor made’, which features Johnny Taylor on piano, Dan Bodwell on Bass and Dominic Mullen on drums.

Limerick Jazz Workshop –

Limerick jazz workshop has been providing local jazz education since 2007.

Meeting on Tuesday evenings at the Learning Hub Limerick, Kileely, from Sept – May, students are organised in ensembles under guidance of expert teachers. Each session involves the students developing their skills by learning and performing some of the great standards in the jazz repertoire.

Ruti Lachs Children’s Workshop –

A music show for children, titled ‘Stomping in Wonderland’ will take place as an interactive performance for children aged 0-7.

Some songs in the show are based on Alice in Wonderland, now in its 150^th anniversary.

The children will join in, waving their trunks like elephants, jumping, twirling and dancing.

Once and Four All – Where jazz meets folk

The band compromise elements of jazz, trad Irish music, blues and folk.

The Mysterious Mr. Valentine –

This musical duo provides a sense of musicality and spirit that will lead the audience into creative fields of style and sound, fusing Swing, Bossa & Tango, Manouche Blues and Reggae.

Galway Youth Big Band

Galway Youth Orchestra, the longest established community orchestra in the West of Ireland, celebrates 30 years of young people playing together in 2012.

Founded in 1982, Galway Youth Orchestra has over 140 musicians who are organised into Junior Orchestra, intermediate orchestra, senior orchestra and Galway Youth Organisation.

Ancór Choral Group –

Founded in 2005 by conductor Cecilia Madden, Ancór Choral Group comprises of 30 singers from a variety of nationalities and backgrounds, who have performed several times at UCH Limerick.

Honor Heffernan and Hugh Buckley, with the Paul Jost Project –

Honor Heffernan, performing for over 30 years, has a huge range of vocal ability and has seen success with three solo albums in the past; Chasing the moon, Fire and Ice and The Other Side.

Hugh Buckley –

Hugh teaches guitar, improvisation and arranging techniques at BCFE and is a regular face of the Dublin jazz scene.
