Limerick Lady, Mary Cussen celebrates 100th birthday with friends and family
Limerick Lady, Mary Cussen, celebrated the milestone birthday at Castletroy Park Hotel with friends and family as she “enters her triple digits era”

A heartwarming celebration took place recently in the Castletroy Park Hotel as the beloved matriarch of the Cussen family, Mary, turned 100 years old.
“A century of our beloved Mam,” said Mary’s family as they celebrated the 100th birthday of “our mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother & friend as Mam enters her triple digits era”!
Surrounded by family, friends, and well-wishers, this milestone birthday was marked with joy, laughter, and a reflection on a life well-lived. Family travelled from far and wide to be part of this special celebration with loved ones flying in from America, Canada, and Mary’s brothers Seamus Liston (aged 93) and Nicholas Liston (aged 97) and his wife, Mary Liston, making the trip to Limerick to celebrate with family. Mary was surrounded by four generations of family—a true testament to her legacy.
Mary was joined by her daughters, Ann and Marie, and her son, Maurice, who have all lovingly cared for Mary and been towers of strength for her, especially so in more recent years. Maurice welcomed guests to this momentous occasion, followed by Mary’s eldest granddaughter, Lisa, sharing a heartfelt speech on the incredible impact Mary has had on the lives around her & the people she touched throughout her many decades.

Adoringly referred to as “Supergran” back in the day by her grandchildren, Mary has certainly lived up to this title as she was the heart of the celebrations on this day.
Mary, who was born and raised in Knockaderry, has lived in Limerick city most of her life. Known for her kindness, vibrant spirit & her keen eye for beauty and fashion, with her family saying, “Her wisdom and strength inspire us every day.”
The president of Ireland, Michael D Higgins, recognised this remarkable milestone birthday by sending Mary a beautifully written letter which is now proudly hung on the wall of Mary’s room.
Mary’s 100th birthday was not just a celebration of her life but also a reminder of the bonds that unite us all. Here’s to many more memories and celebrations to come!
