Limerick Land Search Team to walk 350 miles to raise funds
By I Love Limerick Correspondent Tara Byrne
A fundraising campaign has been set up by Limerick Land Search Team in order to raise funds for the lifesaving rescue service they provide within the county. The team said on Facebook, “Members of the team have decided to walk 350 miles in full gear to highlight the challenges and breadth of activities involved in providing such a vital service. They hope to continue to serve their communities and bring people home to their families. We hope to accomplish this to the best of our abilities and continue to make a difference.”
Limerick Land Search Team is a Limerick-based organisation set up in 2013 to assist in the search, rescue and recovery of missing persons. Since the formation of the group, they have been on countless operations which have seen them travel the county and further afield. In these hard, uncertain times they have been receiving an influx of calls, going beyond the usual search and rescue to even more challenging ways of helping the community. Recently they haven’t been able to do their usual fundraising due to COVID-19 which has had a devastating effect on them.
On their Facebook page, they state, “We are on call 24/7, all year round, ready to respond to any call wherever we are needed in case of any missing persons. We work in conjunction with the gardaí and other search and rescue groups. We are a fully voluntary group of people from the Limerick area we have been trained and certified in CPR, AED and all necessary training that we need to do our job.”
The Go Fund Me page currently has a goal of €1,500 and would really appreciate the community’s help.
All funds and donations will be going to the team to create better services for their community, such as new gear, training new members and branching the search team out to new waters.
The team asks, “We completely understand that we are in hard times and appreciate every share and donation. No amount is too small or too much, every penny will dramatically help our team and our service.”
