Learning Hub Limerick 2026 Summer Camp celebrated a week of outdoor adventures and active learning

The Learning Hub Limerick has enjoyed a week of action-packed activities with its 2026 summer camp, taking in the beauty of the outdoors and getting active.

The week took the young participants aged 10 to 12 years old to new heights as they kicked off their summer camp by taking on a hike to Knockfierna.

The hikers set off on the historic hill walk, clocking up plenty of steps and were rewarded with some incredible panoramic views on a beautiful, clear day. Described as the perfect way to kick off the camp, and demonstrating that persisting through the difficult hike made their efforts worthwhile.

On Tuesday, the learners had an early 9:15 am start as they set off on another day of adventure to Derg Isle Adventure Centre, County Clare, this time taking to the water, where they got to experience kayaking and a different view of local landscapes as well as trying rock climbing and an obstacle course.

Later in the week, the group travelled to the Burren, taking on the Lough Avalla Farm Loop Trail as part of another day of outdoor exploration. The group spent the day enjoying the unique landscape, taking in the scenery and having fun together along the route.

The activities formed part of a packed summer camp schedule, which also included adventure a visit to Tralee Aquadome.

Uģis Daņiļēvičs Lynch, STEM coordinator at the Learning Hub, acted as trip supervisor and said, “The primary purpose of the adventure camps was to foster holistic development by removing teenagers from their everyday routines. Through structured activities, the young people built leadership skills, experienced cultural diversity, gained independence, and formed lifelong friendships.

“It instilled a ‘yes I can’ attitude and gave them a chance to learn new transferable life skills that are not conventionally taught in a classroom. The week was an incredible success that will live on the young people’s memories forever.”

The camp gave the young learners the chance to explore nature and stay active while promoting social skills and learning, all while having fun.

Ugis added, “Even though camp was a great way for team-building, there were many opportunities for kids to show their competitive side.”

Learning Hub Limerick believe instilling a love of learning from an early age is key, and children and young people should persist with education for as long as possible.

The group is a charity and social enterprise that works with children, families, the wider community and partner schools and third-level colleges to raise educational aspiration levels in the communities we serve. They work in partnership with educators and parents to add value to the school day and also provide crucial out-of-school, low-cost educational, social and cultural activities for young people.

Founded in 2007, The Learning Hub works in partnership with parents, education providers, statutory agencies and the wider Limerick community to provide a safe, welcoming and inspiring learning environment where young people can reach their true potential.
