The Limerick Hurling Masters team is appealing for support to help with preparations ahead of their All-Ireland Finals Day appearance in August
The Limerick Masters are on the cusp of making history as they hope to see out their second season at the upcoming All-Ireland Finals day.
As the hurlers finish off the Round Robin stage of the competition, their season will not end there as they have secured qualification for the All-Ireland Masters final Day, which takes place at the end of August.
The panel, which draws from all areas of Limerick and different divisions, with 19 different clubs represented across the team, shows how deep the community created in the sport reaches.
The Gaelic Masters Association (GMA) is an independent organisation and the team relies heavily on self-funding as they continue to play the sport they love. The Masters league is open to players above 40 years of age and allows players to continue representing their county at a high level.
Appealing for support on a GoFundMe page set up to help the team continue their matchpreparation and travel to Dublin for the finals day, the organisers wrote, “The Limerick masters hurling team is in the middle of it’s second season and with one group game to go have already qualified for All Ireland finals day at the end of August. The panel is made up of players representing all divisions in the county and comes from 19 different clubs.”
“The team are entering into their 6th month of training and matches, and as a fully self-funded team, rely on the support of individuals and companies to compete each year. As the season now extends into August, they are asking for your help to prepare in any possible way for finals day.”
They noted that all donations will be greatly appreciated and say that “all funds raised will go exclusively towards training and match day costs”.
They finished out their appeal for support by saying, “We don’t stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing.”
