The Limerick Media and Arts Conference (LMAC) will take place online on August 25 and 26, hosted by Wired FM, Limerick’s student-operated radio station.
The free event will be streamed online and will feature a series of panel discussions and workshops aimed at the student population of Limerick, both second and third level.
Panel discussions will include ‘Millennial Media: Monetisation and Marketing’, ‘Challenging Current Affairs Programming’, ‘Podcasting: Perseverance or Permanence’ and ‘Where are the Critics? The Role of the Critic in 2021’.
As for panellists, the impressive lineup will include Malachy Browne (New York Times), Aoife Barry (The Journal.ie), Rob O’Hanrahan (Virgin Media) and Andrew Lowth (Newstalk).
The event will also see contributions from music critic Zara Hedderman, Anfield Agenda’s Craig Houlden, Spin South West’s Sophie La Touche, Owen Colgan of the Hardy Bucks and comedy podcaster Martin Beanz Warde.
Aoife Nic Canna, one of Ireland’s most respected and celebrated DJ’s, will host the masterclass ‘Journey by a DJ’, not to be missed by any up-and-comers.
Additional workshops, discussions and panellists will be announced in the coming weeks.
The inaugural LMAC was due to take place in 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was postponed on two occasions.

This year, Wired FM decided to turn pandemic restrictions into a positive. As an online event, LMAC can engage with students right across Ireland. Wired FM may also welcome panellists from further afield, who would not normally be able to attend the event in Limerick.
All events are free for students to attend and will take place online, using Zoom Webinar.
Broadcasting on 99.9FM in Limerick City, Wired FM transmits 48 hours of programming every week during the academic year. The station, ran by students for students, broadcasts a wide range of programmes including current affairs, magazine shows, arts programmes, documentaries and of course, music.
