Limerick Mental Health Awareness has teamed up with the Hunt Museum for the month of May. May marks Green Ribbon month, the Green Ribbon Campaign is to get people talking openly about mental health problems in May 2016.

Limerick Mental Health Awareness is hosting a set of talks every Wednesday for the full month of May at the Hunt Museum. The first talk took place on May 4, when guest speaker Patrick Fitzgerald from Limerick Mental Health Awareness and My Mind, spoke to a room of visitors at the museum about his interpretation of what Mental Health is.

Also present at the event were Siobhan Wilmott and Amanda Clifford from Limerick Mental Health Awareness. Siobhan is also involved with Youth Mental Health and “I’m Talking about Suicide”. “I’m Talking about Suicide” is a study into the eight people at the biggest risk of suicide. “It could be anyone” explained Siobhan. “We just want to get conversation starting and not sweep it under the carpet”.

Limerick Mental Health Awareness is an organisation set up to promote a healthy and open attitude towards Mental Health. Limerick Mental Health Awareness aims to promote mental health awareness, to reduce the stigma that is attached to mental health and to network with all the different organisation so we can work together to support people who experience mental health difficulties.

The next talk will take place on Wednesday, May 11 at 1:30pm in the Hunt Museum. Guest speaker John Madigan of Reflections Counselling will offer a free talk to the people of Limerick, and all are welcome.
