Limerick Musical Society brings ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ to University Concert Hall from April 3 to 5, 2025 coinciding with the group’s 25th anniversary.

Inspired by the 1964 Roald Dahl novel, the production combines a very well-known song from the 1971 film ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’ and music written by the songwriters of ‘Hairspray’.

Limerick Musical Society said they have been “dreaming the dream” since last year as they prepared for this special show.

Ber Hickey, Limerick Musical Society said, “In Roald Dahl’s 1964 original manuscript, he wrote, “We are the music makers and the dreamers of dreams.” And I think it’s fair to say we have been dreaming the dream since last June, planning for this wonderful production.”

The story follows Charlie Bucket, a selfless and considerate little boy who finds a golden ticket hidden inside a Wonka Chocolate Bar, earning him a pass to Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

However, Charlie soon discovers alongside the four other golden ticket holders, that there is more to the factory than just chocolate and everlasting gobstoppers. Follow the children as they embark on a whimsical journey through the factory, meeting familiar characters along the way and finding out that nobody ever leaves the same as they came…

The dazzling tale of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is sure to capture the hearts of Limerick children and adults alike at its Munster premier, on April 3rd - 5th at the University Concert Hall.

Adding to the group’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the group has announced that their 25th Anniversary Ball will take place on May 2 at 7:30 PM at Castletroy Park Hotel.

Ber Hickey said, “This will feature a 17-piece brass band, the Limerick City Brass Band, and tickets will be available from the committee in the near future.  We look forward to seeing you all there.”
