Limerick promises nostalgia and sunshine with a weekend of live music
Limerick gets ready for a massive weekend of music, nostalgia, and sunshine as The Big Day Out returns to the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Saturday, 23rd and UB40 with Ali Campbell to take the stage for an exclusive Irish gig on Sunday, 24th of August

The Big Day Out lands at the TUS Gaelic Grounds to get the beats going for a summer celebration of nostalgia and music this Saturday, August 23, bringing Ireland’s biggest 90s & 00s party to the Treaty City followed by an exclusive appearance by UB40 with Ali Campbell on Sunday, August 24.
With the weather looking as promising as the lineup, with dry spells and temperatures looking up to 21°C, it is looking like a festival weekend that is not to be missed by lovers of 80s, 90s and 00s classics!
Kicking off at 3pm on Saturday, August 23, TUS Gaelic Grounds, The Big Day Out will see Blue joined by dance music legend, Basshunter, as well as 90s icons Peter Andre, Heather Small, and Whigfield with DJ Sash! getting the weekend underway in style.
On an action-packed Saturday, N-Trance and Ultrabeat will keep 90s and 00s fans entertained, as well as Tall Paul, Al Gibbs, Josh McCabe and Naughty Noughties. It doesn’t end there as Mark McCabe will MC the event and special appearances from Limerick’s club legends with DJs from Trinity Rooms, Docs, and Strictly Rhythm will take to the decks.
Changing the vibe on Sunday, the Gaelic Grounds will be a paradise for fans of reggae and ska, with an exclusive appearance by reggae legends UB40 with Ali Campbell, joined on the billing by Damien Dempsey, and Ska pioneers The Selecter and The Beatles Dub Club.
Fuelled by the voice that powered UB40 to 70 million record sales and over fifty UK chart hits, Ali Campbell, and the latest incarnation of his extraordinary band, will take his legendary reggae sound on tour next year with the Gaelic Grounds playing host to this exclusive outdoor show.

in 2023, UB40 marked 40 years since the release of their album ‘Labour of Love’, which produced the groundbreaking hits that will be performed on this tour such as ‘Cherry Oh Baby’, ‘Many Rivers to Cross’, ‘Please Don’t Make Me Cry’, and of course the ubiquitous ‘Red Red Wine’ which topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and Ireland.
Further hits from across the band’s career such as ‘Kingston Town’, a cover of ‘I Got You Babe’ with Chrissie Hynde, and ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’ helped the band and Ali Campbell become the authentic voice of UK Reggae, with a total of 70 million records sold, as they took their smooth yet rootsy musical blend to all corners of the globe.
Gates open at 3pm both days, with entrance via the Ennis Road. The event is over-12s only, with under-16s permitted if accompanied by an adult. General tickets for each gig are available online. Bars throughout the venue will serve beer, cider, wine, prosecco and spirits, alongside a cocktail bar run by The Commercial.
