Limerick Over 40s Soccer for Charity Tournament has raised over €350,000 for local charities since 2019

After an enforced break, the Annual Over 40s Limerick Charity Soccer Tournament will return to Janesboro FC on June 21 and 22. The tournament will be played for the first time since 2019 following an enforced break over the last number of years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since its inception way back in 1982, the popular tournament has raised around €350,000 for local charities.
“Having been approached by a number of clubs regarding the possibility of recommencing the tournament, the organising committee were more than surprised with the level of interest shown by the clubs especially after such a long break,” commented committee member Gerry McCormack.
The Mayor of Limerick is wishing the best of luck to players, organisers and supporters involved with the 2025 Limerick Over 40s Soccer for Charity Tournament.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, commented, “After a long and challenging few years, it’s genuinely heartening to see this special event return to our city, for the first time since 2019. I know how much this tournament means to so many people, many of whom have kept the spirit of the event alive during the pandemic years. Events like this remind us that sport and soccer is about far more than competition or athletic ability. It’s about community, connection and shared purpose. When that purpose includes raising money for important causes, it’s all the better. Limerick is now known for its energy and for a real desire to do things differently. This tournament, with all of the tradition it has behind it, is a great example of that. Good luck to all the teams and hats off to the organisers and volunteers who’ve made it happen. A special word to all the players, let’s play it clean and safely!”
Organising committee member Gerry McCormack added, “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks and best wishes to all players, supporters, and volunteers who have helped us put this all together. It’s wonderful to see our community come together once again to celebrate sport, friendship and charity. I am especially proud that we can use this event to support important charitable causes, making a real difference in people’s lives. I encourage everyone to enjoy the matches and cheer loudly this weekend! Let’s make this tournament memorable, filled with great football, good humour and the spirit of giving back. Best of luck to all teams – may the best team win!”
The tournament will be held in the grounds of Janesboro FC on June 21 and 22.
