Discussed in the opening episode of I Love Limerick’s Podcast show, were the recent events that took place in Limerick last week, such as our new Rose of Tralee, Adare women Sinead Flanagan. She is the third Limerick rose to win the event in 60 years to be awarded the prestigious title.

After eight years of studying, she finally qualified in May of last year, achieving her medical degree. She spent four years studying physiotherapy in the University of Limerick and another four years in the University College Cork, including winning the Dr HH Stewart Medical Scholarship in medical microbiology in 2016.

She hopes to continue her work while also carrying out her duties as the new Rose. Also discussed was Love Island winner Greg O’Shea, who went to school with the Limerick beauty in the past.

Richard Lynch, founder of I Love Limerick, said, “I am beyond happy for Sinead Flanagan. It’s amazing. I can’t believe Limerick has finally won again”.

Also talked about was the new Refill initiative, a major voluntary environmental project, which aims to make Ireland a tap water refilling country. Limerick City and County council have come onboard with the project, along with 70 businesses around Limerick.

Another topic that was discussed was the Limerick-based Technology and Innovation firm ActionPoint launching the World Cup Warm-up event in aid of the LIVE 95 Helping Limerick Children initiative. The event takes place in Thomond Park on Thursday, September 12 at 7.30 am and will bring stars from the rugby world together for breakfast, world cup predictions and some tales from behind the scenes including some of the finest Munster and international rugby players.

The LIVE 95 Children initiative is supporting 3 limerick charities; Cliona’s Foundation, The Children’s Greif Centre and CARI.

Also talked about was the Community Wellness Clinic, which will be taking a space at the Urban co-op in Eastway Business Park to deliver heating and health treatments, starting every Wednesday, September 11 from 2-9pm.

Treatments in the clinic will include Acupuncture, Physical Therapy, Tui Na Massage, Cupping, Reflexology, Diet & Nutrition, Herb Formulations, Exercise & Movement Therapy, Stress & Pain Management, and Tai Chi.

Another important topic of discussion was our two personal stories with a cause, the James Carroll story and Leon’s Lifeline.

James Carroll is a four-year-old boy whose family is reaching out to the public to ask for help. James was diagnosed in November 2018 at three years old with spinocerebellar ataxia type 42, a significant mutation, impacting every aspect of his life. They need funds to transform his living space, which will ultimately transform his quality of life.

Richard Lynch, who is a close family friend of the O’Connors, said, “His mother Valerie is at her wits end, She is seeing her child suffer”.

Also discussed in the podcast were other news stories in Limerick, such as the Treaty County star, Aaron Gillane, who is the latest sports player to join CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) as an ambassador to help save young lives from Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD). Also discussed was Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning 2019 for Hospice Together.
