To kick off this week’s episode of the, I Love Limerick’s Podcast show we talked about our favorite memories of The Late Late Toy Show as kids and on how the show has evolved through the years. The Christmas was kept up in high spirits as the talked about The Limerick Urban Garden. In the heart of the city center’s shopping district will be a hub of activity, where you can soak up the festive sights and city lights as you make your plans for present buying or nights out with family and friends.

Last year’s festive favorite Toots for Trains makes a welcome return to the city in the run-up to Christmas.  Hop on board Toots at the Urban Garden, travel through the heart of the city and experience Christmas in Limerick. Award-winning Toots is wheelchair accessible and buggy friendly.  Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. As with all trains please expect a wait time at busy periods. Toots will be in Limerick every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from November 29 until December 22.

That’s not all, Nearby in Arthur’s Quay Park, experience the magic of ice skating at one of Limerick’s most celebrated Christmas attractions Limerick on Ice. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a complete beginner, this is a firm family favorite for all to enjoy. Limerick on Ice is open every day from November 28 until  January 5, with the exception of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Next up we talked about the newest mural to hit limerick city. The memory of Dolores O’Riordan still lingers with a stunning mural dedicated to her honor. After several weeks of work, the mural for the late Dolores O’Riordan has been completed near King John’s Castle in the Medieval Quarter of the city.

The piece was created through a collaboration between the urban art festival Draw Out and the Dublin street artist Aches. The piece is part of many artworks that celebrates the influential women of Limerick, both past and present. The Dublin street artist  Aches has overlayed three separate images of Dolores performing onstage back in 1993, using a special style which he calls ‘glitch graffiti’.

Limerick City and County Council has provided funding for the series of murals depicting strong and influential women across Limerick city to be created by Draw Out. The first piece unveiled was a beautiful and powerful depiction of Constance Smith in the Medieval Quarter of Limerick, which was revealed earlier this month.

Another amazing news for The Cranberries and the legacy of Dolores O’Riordan is there recent Grammy nomination. After 30 years The Cranberries finally received a nominee for Best Rock Album on Wednesday, November 20 when their final album, ‘In The End’ was announced in the run-up for a Grammy.  The announcement comes almost 2 years after the death of lead singer Dolores O’ Riordan and features vocals recorded of her prior to her death in January of 2018. 

Next up we talked about the newest business to hit Limerick city Center. Enable Ireland has recently opened a brand new Garden & Gift Store on Honan’s Quay in Limerick City, next to their existing Enable Ireland charity shop, on Thursday, November 14. The Garden Centre has been in the works for almost two years, with the site only recently been released to Enable Ireland.

The previously derelict site was in bad condition when Enable Ireland took it over, however, due to the generosity and help of locals, the site is now decorated with beautiful flower beds and purple fences. The site the Garden Centre is located on was a formerly vacant site for 13 years, after Roches Garden Centre exited the market and moved to Debenhams in 2006.

Enable Ireland provides services to children and adults with disabilities and their families from over 40 locations in 15 counties. Covering childhood to adulthood their expert teams work with the individual and their family on a plan for each life stage.

And last but not least we talked about a new art program at The Hunt Museum. An innovative arts program for primary schools is launching this month, bringing together three Limerick cultural institutions: The Hunt Museum, Limerick City Gallery of Art and Limerick Museum.

Pupils from schools across Limerick will discover the three collections through workshops and activities, developing their confidence and understanding in visual art, while exploring the theme of identity across the collections. The program also includes one-off events such as children-led tours of the collections, training sessions for teachers and a summer showcase.

There will be a small fee per pupil to cover delivery costs. Primary schools can book for Spring and Summer terms 2020 from November 21 by contacting The Hunt Museum.
