To kick off this week’s episode of the, I Love Limerick’s Podcast show we talked about,  Samantha Long as she sets transform her family’s 143-acre beef farm to forestry, an area to grow hemp and an animal sanctuary. 

The farm, located in Adare, Co. Limerick has been in Samantha’s family for nearly seven decades and was an integral part of her childhood as she spent years helping to rear caves and such on the farm. However, despite the realities of beef farming, Samantha became vegetarian at the tender age of 9-years-old and transitioned into vegan three years ago. 

In order to qualify for this, she must farm the land commercially for five years before ownership is transferred. Following the transfer of ownership, Samantha has big plans for the farm including potentially growing the Cannabis sativa plant species of Hemp, for commercial purposes such as the creation of CBD oil. 

Samantha’s dreams for the land don’t stop here- she also hopes to someday grow oats for the Irish milling company, Flahavan’s. 

Next up we talked about the exciting Limerick journey that will be taken on January 30, 2020, as Limerick unveils a brand to strengthen its competitive edge.

Limerick City and County Council, after a careful and detailed process, has finalized an all-embracing brand position that it will promote across all high-potential markets. This will be promoted to raise the profile of the city and county as a destination for inward industry and tourism investment and to attract people to live, work and play here.

Announcing the Limerick brand unveil, which will take place at St. Mary’s Cathedral on January 30, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Councillor Michael Sheahan said, “The past decade has been arguably Limerick’s greatest ever in terms of the ground we have made. When you consider where we were at the start of it and where we were when we came out of it, these two points are poles apart”.

The Limerick brand unveil will be broadcast live at 10 am on Thursday, January 30 on the I Love Limerick Facebook page. 

Next up we talked about, The Munster Heart Foundation as they announce the 2nd annual Munster Heart Foundation Ladies Lunch and Fashion Show taking place at The Savoy Hotel, Limerick on Valentine’s Day February 14th at 12:30 pm. 

The Munster Heart Foundation is continuing to raise valuable funds to go towards the cost of an Intra-Cardiac Echo (ICE) machine for University Hospital Limerick. This lifesaving equipment will continue to help many people in the Munster region.

Last but not least we talked about The Limerick St Patrick’s Festival 2020 is greener than usual with ‘Our Future is Green’ theme. The theme of this year’s Limerick St Patricks Festival 2020 has been announced as ‘Our Future is Green’. Limerick’s businesses, community, sporting, and voluntary groups are being asked to showcase their green credentials as part of this year’s Limerick St Patrick’s Festival.

Limerick’s St Patrick’s Day Parade is one of the biggest in the country, with thousands of participants from at home and further afield. The Limerick City and County Council are asking parade participants to embrace the parade theme when preparing their St. Patrick’s Day Parade entry. They are asking them to be as creative and imaginative as possible in interpreting the theme Our Future Is Green, through costumes, floats, and performance.

Entries can be created by using green alternatives and/ or recycled materials where possible. The closing date for receipt of completed forms is Friday 28 February 2020. Please note that community groups and those participating using the parade theme for their entry will be prioritized.
