The Limerick Pool Association (LPA), celebrating more than two decades as a platform for the local pool community, is hosting an Open Day ahead of the launch of the 2024/25 season this Saturday, August 24.

The event, set to take place at Mulcahy’s Bar in Caherconlish from 2 pm onwards, promises to be a fun-filled day of games, competitions, and socialising for both current and prospective members.

LPA representatives explained, “We endeavour to promote the game of English 8 ball pool amongst our many members young and old. We hold many competitions locally to form teams to bring to the All Ireland Festival Of Pool which is held in Killarney in May of each year.

“We also have had a variety of members who got to play for Ireland at many international events over the years and at present there are junior members who have made their international debut in the World 8 ball Championships held in Blackpool England in June just gone.”

The organisers said this Open Day will be a way to “kickstart” their season and will be an event consisting of “fun-filled games like ‘Speed pool’, ‘One Frame Shootout’, ‘Dish Challenge’ ‘Last Man Standing’ and other fascinating competitions”.

The games featured on the day are designed not only to entertain but also to hone the skills of players, making the event both fun and beneficial for participants.

In addition to the games, the LPA is offering a special half-price season registration exclusively for those who attend the Open Day. Men can register for just €15 (down from €25), while juniors and ladies can sign up for €10 (down from €15). This discount, coupled with the event’s array of activities, is expected to attract a large turnout.

For those interested in competitive play, the day will also include several tournament-style events with 50 per cent of the proceeds going back to the LPA, supporting their continued efforts to promote pool in the region. Participants can also look forward to taking home a booklet containing all the information they need for the upcoming season.

The LPA encourages all current members and anyone interested in joining to come along ahead of what will be an exciting new season, saying, “You never know, it might awaken a competitive spirit in you regarding pool that you didn’t know existed!”
