Limerick Pride presents Royal Rumble on Paddy’s Day!
By I Love Limerick Correspondent Dylan Frawley
The Limerick Pride Royal Rumble event takes place this Saint Patrick’s Day, Wednesday, March 17th. The event was organised and directed by Michael Verrecchia AKA Drag Performer Carrie Déway alongside Lisa Daly, the Chairperson and Director of Limerick Pride.
Join Limerick Pride and 8 Lip Sync Assassins as they go head-to-head in the royal rumble ring with a twist!
“It’s like momma Ru always says you gotta have Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent. We are looking for the whole package from our 8 amazing queens, each one a very different performer, and just like “Chicken Hut”, their gravy can’t be beaten! So, expect an epic lip sync showdown that will leave you wanting more. We encourage our viewers to let us know who their favourites are using the hashtag #LPRR,” said Carrie Déway.
Round 1: Meet the Queens – Each queen has a chance to show off who they are and why they are a lip sync assassin in a performance of their choice edited how they like! Think MTV but so much gayer!
Round 2: Face-Off – All 8 Queens will face off in this ultimate 8-way lip sync battle! Yes, that’s right, one song, one screen and 8 Queens.
Round 3: Head-to-Head – “This is the final round of Royal Rumble and we have randomly paired off the queens to go head-to-head in a drag race style lip sync split screen! The Final Round is where each queen is paired off in our random queen generator and will lip-sync for the legacy in our very own on-screen ring; in other words, we split the screen and see who can slay the lip-sync and grab your attention. It’s like who wore it best but more fabulous and a lot more movement,” Carrie Déway explains.
The event will be hosted by no other than special guest, Dublin Drag Queen Paul Ryder who featured on Ireland’s Got Talent, who will join Limericks very own comedian and mental health activist Jen Ronan. The hosts will take you through the evening along with the referee, The Queen of Ballymun Dame Stuffy!
In addition, a special guest singer will open the show on the night with the very own Royal Rumble Anthem! The show will close with DJ Olivia Chau and photos that will take you on a trip down memory lane from club nights in limerick over the years.
“We are hoping to raise vital funds to have our festival for Limerick Pride 2021. We hope everyone can enjoy this event and get a fabulous distraction from the world right now,” Carrie Déway added.
Chairperson and Director of the event, Lisa Daly, states, “We are excited to bring this one-of-a-kind event to entertain people in their homes, while also raising vital funds for Limerick Pride Festival 2021. The show will be hosted by two familiar faces, drag performer and presenter Paul Ryder and Limerick’s own Jen Ronan. Our show has every type of performer from live singers, hosts, DJ sets, and various queens from up and down the country, and we even have comedy with our referee. This is the first time we have worked this way virtually, and we are delighted to work with Gr8Events.ie. Each ticket code is unique and will last for 48hours – one ticket per household. Over two hours of entertainment, including your very own home club DJ set to finish off a night jam-packed with performers, singers, amazing hosts, and all-round feel-good fun for all. It might be virtual, but the hard work is very, very real, and would not have been possible without the team effort from the entire Limerick Pride Committee”.
Make sure to tune in for a night full of surprises and twists and turns to keep you on your toes this St. Patrick’s Day and all from the comfort of your own home!
All 8 queens have been revealed and are Charnell Clearwater, Karma Monet, Elle Uminati, Mistress Onya Becks, Lexxi Rose, Ariana Grindr, Carrie Deway and Regina George.
Stay tuned to see the turn out of this fantastic competition!
