Limerick Pride Virtual Youth Festival is a spectacular three-day event

Limerick Pride Virtual Youth Festival is a spectacular three-day event 

Drag King & Queen workshops, movie nights, music and a virtual Pride Parade are all part of the festivities for this year’s three-day Pride Youth Festival with Limerick Youth Service.

The three-day festival, which is part of Limerick Pride Week, starts on Thursday, July 9 and is open to all young people (12-18yrs), regardless of gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

Due to Covid-19, this year’s Pride Youth celebrations will take place online with the events taking place via Zoom and social media.

Limerick Youth Service’s, Olivia Chau, who has been busy working with the young people ahead of this year’s Pride, said: “It’s going to be the biggest and best Pride Youth Festival ever! We have a broad variety of events including drag workshops, a table quiz, Q&A, information workshops while will all be taking part in the main virtual Limerick Pride Parade.”

The virtual pride festival is full of activities for all to enjoy.

The timetable for the three-days is as follows:

Thursday, July 9:

  • Launch of Pride Youth Festival with music from Limerick’s talent teens!
  • Information Workshop with GOSHH
  • LGBTQI+ themed movie night

Friday, July 10:

  • Drag Queen Workshop inc Q&A with Lexii Rose (5—6 pm)
  • Drag King Q & A with Dandy Issues & Dez Scrace (6-7 pm)
  • Drag Queen Workshop inc Q&A with Aurora Heartfeelia (7-8 pm)

Saturday, July 11:

  • Virtual Pride Parade
  • Pride Table Quiz

The virtual Pride Youth Festival is the result of the labour of young people from LYS who were keen to ensure the popular festival took place despite Covid-19.

‘For some LGBTQI+ young people the Covid 19 restrictions have been quite challenging as they may have had to hide their identity and true-self,’ explained Shelly Goggin, LYS.

‘Since March we have been engaging with and supporting them and they are all looking forward to this Pride Youth Festival which many of them help to organise,’ said Shelly, youth worker.

‘The Pride Youth Festival was truly a team effort and it was great to young people from the many LYS projects/groups support each other in organising the events,’ said Shelly.
