‘Manliness’ –
On the one hand inherent to the construction of a performed gender, on the other a dirty sullen word, that encapsulates the gender biased crumbling of a social narrative.
In an age of progressing social visibility of gender and sexuality, this notion of the masculine, the codes of the ‘default man’ are being hemmed and readjusted, the knuckles of man are being forced to be picked up from generations of being dragged heavily on the ground and the wounds exposed and examined.
Five emerging artists, negotiate what it means to be male now.
