The opening night of the Limerick Printmakers Winter Members Exhibition 2017 took from 6 pm yesterday evening with artist Debora Ando of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) featuring as opening speaker and selector of the chosen pieces for the exhibition. The exhibition will be on until Saturday, December 16 inclusive.
This is the fifteenth Limerick Printmakers Winter Members Exhibition, an event that has become a highlight of LP’s annual programming. LP is dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the scope and talent that exists among Limerick Printmakers studio members while simultaneously highlighting the multitude of printmaking techniques and processes that are in popular use today. The breadth of work on show reinforces how expansive printmaking has become as an art form.
Jess Tobin, Manager of the Limerick Printmakers said at the event: “There is work by 13 members featured in this show and it covers a wide variety of forms of printmaking. It gives us an opportunity to show the public the possibilities of printmaking and to see the variety of work on show in terms of both technique use of colour and also it also brings in aspects of digital printmaking and video.”
Limerick Printmakers current group of studio members encompasses practicing artists and printmakers, photographers, recent graduates across various artistic disciplines alongside graphic designers, teachers, and lecturers. There is a dynamic blend of established, mid-career and emerging artists working from the studio. LP is committed to supporting and representing its approximately 60 members through a range of activities including its exhibition programme which strives to promote high-quality contemporary printmaking from the Mid-West and Munster regions.
The Limerick Printmakers artists featured are Ciara Barker, Ailbhe Barrett, Eoin Barry, Gemma Dardis, Deirdre Gallagher, John Horne, Carol Kennedy, Dan Kenny, Kate O’ Shea, Verona Stellet, Clodagh Twomey, Isabella Walsh, and Linda Young. Many of the LP members featured in the show have exhibited nationally and internationally and are represented in some of the most respected public and private collections in Ireland & abroad.
The range of methods and techniques on show includes silkscreen, letterpress, monoprint, etching, embossment, cyanotype, sugar lift, photo etching, and collagraph printmaking along with video and digital artworks. The diversity that exists within the members of Limerick Printmakers and the processes they utilise to create their work is illustrated in this stimulating and vibrant body of work that reinforces the relevance of the studio within Limerick’s vigorous and exciting artistic community and also that of the strength of printmaking as an art form that both encourages and demands experimentation and inventiveness.
This is a fantastic opportunity to explore the most recent output of a fine art printmaking studio that has been in existence in Limerick city for over eighteen years. Printmaking is an affordable and accessible form of art, being of high quality and of a collectable nature.
