Limerick Repair Directory now online reducing waste across Limerick

A range of repair services have been included in the Limerick Repair Directory after the businesses contacted the council following a call for information a number of weeks ago.

A new Limerick Repair Directory has been compiled to encourage people to repair and reuse items as a method of reducing waste.

A range of repair services have been included in the Limerick Repair Directory after the businesses contacted the council following a call for information a number of weeks ago.

More and more people are seeing the value in getting items repaired, giving some furniture a bit of TLC or finding new uses for things, than ever before. However, many people didn’t know where to find these repair services.

Their search is now over with the Repair Directory. Limerick City and County Council has compiled the directory but the council is not endorsing any of the businesses listed.

Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon welcomed the new directory: “Over the past number of years, people have put value for money at the top of their shopping lists.  They have also seen the value in getting goods repair as opposed to throwing things away.  This Repair Directory will make it easier for people to find out where they can get their goods repaired.”

Sinead McDonnell, Environment Awareness Officer with Limerick City and County Council said: “The Repair Directory is just another element of our waste reduction strategy. The instant throw-away society appears to be diminishing, meaning more people are looking for ways to repair their belongings.”

“By repairing items, you are not just helping to reduce waste costs, you are also looking at helping the local economy, by employing someone to fix you’re them.”

The Limerick directory is being compiled as a waste prevention action under the Southern Regional Waste Management Plan.

The following is a list of likely repair services that would be expected to be included are (not exhaustive):

  • Large domestic appliances
  • Small domestic appliances
  • Furniture repair and upholstery
  • Leather and shoe repairs
  • Computer and mobile phones repairs
  • Clothes alterations
  • Bicycle repairs and servicing
  • Musical instrument repairs
  • Lawnmowers and garden machinery
  • Watches and jewelry repairs.
