Limerick to celebrate its 22nd annual Robert Burns Night with an evening of Tea Cakes, Tatties, and culture on January 25, 2026

The 22nd annual Robert Burns Night celebration in Limerick is set ot return to Dolans, Dock Road, Limerick on Sunday, January 25, 2026, starting at 7 pm.

The group is now going 22 years strong from when the event was founded by The Late Noel Flannery and Michael Potter with Noel born in Ballinasloe and Michael Potter born in Donegal.

John Moran The Mayor of Limerick, will open the event, and Michael Egan will pipe in the Haggis. Adam Flannery, grandson of Noel Flannerry will address The Haggis, and Phila Grace will sing the songs of Burns. Gordon Lessells of Aberdeen will do the Tam O’Shanter. John Hegarty and other local musicians will also be at hand to entertain attendees.

The event is free to those hoping to attend with ticketing available on the the door as the group rely on sponsorship and donations to continue the annual tradition.

Organisers said, “We will have lots of Tunnock Tea Cakes, Shortbread and Scot Clan sweets.  There will be Tatties and Nips with the Haggis. Tatties and Nips are just Potatoes and Turnips. Our Haggis is really special, coming from Pat O’Dohertys in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland.”

They explained the butcher supplied The G8 Summit in 2013, when The G8 was held in Fermanagh, feeding political leaders such as President Barack Obama, David Cameron and Angela Merkel.

Pat also supplied Harrods of London and The Royals, with King Charles paying Pat’s shop a visit a number of times.

They said, “Burns Night is celebrated all over the world. Robert Burns is the Bard of Scotland, who is the national poet. Robert Burns was born in Alloway, Scotland, on the 25th January 1759. He died on 21st July 1796 in Dumfries, Scotland.”

Burns Night is a time to enjoy Scottish traditions and celebrate the renowned poet Robert Burns with a classic combination of haggis, neeps, tatties, some reciting of poetry, and maybe even a warming dram. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate Scotland‘s enduring legacy of creativity.

The poet is famous for Auld Lang Syne, To a Mouse, A Man’s a Man for all that, Ae Fond Kiss.

A Donegal Town native, Michael Potter, says that “Burns Nights are a big thing there also in Northern Ireland”, promising a “very colourful” event for all those who attend, having hosted the likes of Dáithí Ó’Sé and the Today show in the past as well as coverage from RTÉ.

Planning for the annual event begins in September, with Michael thanking the support of local sponsors, highlighting the generosity of Mick Dolan for his support with the”fabulous” venue.

Richard is a presenter, producer, songwriter and actor. He was named the Limerick Person of the Year (2011) and won an online award at the Metro Éireann Media and Multicultural Awards (2011) for promoting multi-culturalism online. Richard says that the ilovelimerick.com concept is very much a community driven project that aims to document life in Limerick. So, that in 20 years time people can look back and remember the events that were making the headlines.
