Limerick Roller Derby triple header took place in UL Arena on June 17th where they took on Belfast Roller Derby and Brighton Rockers Roller Derby. Excited spectators filled the arena with a bake sale, merchandise tables and a raffle to entertain them as they waited for the teams.

The first game in the Limerick Roller Derby triple header saw Limerick Roller Derby take on Brighton Rockers Roller Derby. After heading into the second half trailing by 50 points, Limerick managed to catch up however Brighton deservedly won by 14 points. The final score was Brighton 173 Limerick Roller Derby 157.

Brighton also won their second game beating Belfast Roller Derby with a final score of Brighton 453 Belfast 65. The final game saw Limerick against Belfast Unfortunately, however, the game was cut short due to an injury.

Brighton’s Shambolic and Limerick’s own Gypsy Darling were favourites of the day at the Limerick Roller Derby triple header. Brighton took home the win of the day with everyone taking home new friendships and a shared new experience.

Limerick Roller Derby currently has 8 skaters, five women and three men on national roller derby teams representing Team Ireland and Team Germany. They are also now a full member of the WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Derby Association).

Limerick Roller Derby played host to rookies from around Ireland as well as more experienced men skaters from team Men Behaving Derby. During this, rookies took to the track in their first proper game  A team black versus white scenario, team White took the win, while in the Limerick V MBD game, the men took home the prize.

Limerick Roller Derby would like to thank the management and staff of UL Arena for hosting their events. They are the envy of many European teams with such a facility on their doorstep.
