Limerick Roller Girls Halloween Ball Fundraiser Including Best Dressed Award
Limerick Roller Derby are doing things differently this Halloween and taking a step back in time to host their creepy, Victorian themed ball on Friday, October 30 in Dolans Warehouse.
The local sports league will be channeling their spooky alter-ego with a night of spiritualistic entertainment including cabaret dance performances, fortune telling, freak show, belly dancing and a special shadow theatre performance. Music will go on into the night and there will be a special prize for the winner of the Best Dressed award.
Roller Derby is a relatively new addition in the Irish sports scene with little to no funding from traditional sport’s bodies. With several levels of experience being catered for, including Freshmeat, Rookies, Travel Team and a new brother team Pigtown Boys; the league depends on fundraisers like this to help cover costs such as hall rental, insurance and funding for away games.
“Derby takes a lot of effort” says coach Aisling Guider, “We put in so much work training and preparing ourselves for matches, but we spend almost the same amount of time trying to market the team, recruit new members and raise money so we can keep playing the sport we love.”
Tickets for the event are €10 and can be purchased on the door. All proceeds will go towards funding the league’s active sports program. Doors open at 9.30pm.
