Limerick Rose 2019 announced as Dr Sinead Flanagan

Doctor Sinead Flanagan was selected as Limerick Rose 2019, as part of the Rose of Tralee International Festival at a sold-out event at Fitzgerald’s Woodlands House Hotel. Twenty-seven-year-old Sinead, from Adare, was chosen to represent the county at the 2019 Limerick Rose Selection.

Sinead Flanagan spoke about how she became involved with the Rose, “It is an absolute privilege and honour to be put forward for the Limerick Rose, I am very proud to come from Limerick, and all that we have achieved as a county, and as a city. The Rose is very special to everyone in Ireland, and across the world, and it’s always interested me and I have always wanted to do it. I think it’s a fantastic festival, and so I am very proud to represent our county in the Rose this year.”

Sinead is an activist, with having previously volunteered in Ghana for a summer as a medical student. She recounts the trip as being a great, moving experience and plans to return to Africa one day.

“Travel is a big interest of mine; I have been lucky enough to have been afforded the opportunities to go. I went to Ghana in the summer of 2017 with forty other students from UCC, and so we spent the summer there helping out at a hospital in rural Ghana. That was fantastic and a privilege, and I hope, through the Rose, to go back to another developing country like Ghana, or even Chernobyl. Travel is definitely something that I enjoy,” added Sinead.

The Rose of Tralee International Festival 2019 will take place from Friday, August 23 to Tuesday, August 27.
