Limerick Central Rotary Club is operating its inaugural Remembrance Tree from 1st to 22nd December 2024
The Remembrance Tree is located in the Garryowen Mall entrance lobby in the Crescent Shopping Centre, next to a new mural by local Limerick artist Patrick Harnett.
Limerick Central Rotary Club bring the remembrance tree in partnership with the Crescent Shopping Centre and four charity partners – Down Syndrome Limerick, Limerick Mental Health Association, Doras and St. Munchin’s Community Centre. Proceeds raised at the Remembrance Tree will go to support these local charities.
The tree was launched on Sunday, December 1 and coincided with the arrival of Santa Claus at the Crescent Shopping Centre. The Unity Gospel Choir Limerick performed at the tree for the opening event, and will perform again on Sunday, December 15.
Ger Lynch, President of Limerick Central Rotary Club said the remembrance tree provides a “public focal point for people to remember a loved one who has passed on, is unable to be home for Christmas or someone they would just like to remember, while also raising funds for four important local causes”.
Speaking about the chosen charities, Mr Lynch said, “We are fundraising for St. Munchin’s Community Centre, Doras, Limerick Mental Health Association, and Down Syndrome Limerick. These are four charities extremely close to my heart.”
Eimear Dwan, Marketing Manager with the Crescent Shopping Centre, said, “The Remembrance Tree is an important part of the Christmas period, and we are very excited to have a tree here at the Crescent this December.”
The Marketing Manager noted the Crescent Shopping Centre was excited to work with Limerick Central Rotary Club on the project, saying, “We hope all our shoppers will put a ribbon on the Remembrance Tree.”
