Limerick School of Music 60 year anniversary took place at the University Concert Hall on Monday, May 22.

It was a night to remember as past students joined the Limerick School of Music for a night of orchestra pieces by Bizet and Queen, Chamber and vocal music by Mozart, Piano music by Schumann and more.

The Limerick School of Music 60 year anniversary event also marked the launch of the  LSOM Alumni Association, a programme aimed atenabling past students to connect with one another and with the school.

The alumni programme hopes to explore the idea of giving past students the place to meet and celebrate the significant contribution the alumni make to the music profession and beyond.

Honorary Patrons of the LSOM Alumni Association are Patrick Cassidy and Bill Whelan, who returned to UCH for the 60-year anniversary for a performance of their own music and gave attendees an opportunity to hear them speak about their association with the new Alumni and Friends Music Scholarship Fund.

The school first opened its door on Mulgrave Street in January 1962 with a small enrolment of no more than 40 students. Since then, the school has seen tens of thousands of students walk through its doors.

The school offers students studying a very clear and defined “path of progress” from the moment they enter the school until their final exam.

The school uses a variety of internationally recognises methods of pedagogy, syllabi and assessment both internal and external.

The school aims to provide an accessible resource of music to all in the community, offering one-to-one lessons to ensure undivided attention that is tailored to suit each student’s ability and rate of progress.

The school has changed a lot since its doors opened 60 years ago with new advancements of technologies in each room of the campus as well as high-tech video recording and sound mixing materials, but there is no doubt that the heart of music is still as prevalent as ever on the campus of LSOM.

Congratulations to LSOM for 60 amazing years!
