Limerick Sings Festival will have Limerick humming, if not singing, from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th June. The festival brings International choristers and local choirs together for a ‘big sing’ weekend which includes two great concerts in St Mary’s Cathedral and University Concert Hall.

On Saturday 27th June, a Choral Extravaganza will take place in St Mary’s Cathedral at 8pm with a programme of classical, gospel and popular arrangements from visiting and local choirs. The afternoon of Sunday 28th June sees the University Concert Hall host a Summer Prom with all choirs at 3.30pm.

Limerick Sings Festival was set up through collaboration by Limerick Hotels and the University Concert Hall, supported by Failte Ireland and Limerick Arts office, to create an event which would attract visiting choirs to Limerick to enjoy the attractions of the city and region. Now in its third year, the non-competitive festival is going from strength to strength and this year is delighted to welcome choirs from Spokane, Washington state
which is twinned with Limerick, Manchester, Dundalk and visitors from the Swedish
choir, Korena Spontana, Goteborg. Local choirs joining the programme include Voices of Limerick, Unity Gospel Choir and Seoda.

The Festival has joined forces with Irish woman, Zoe Franciscus, from Wexford now based in Seattle, who founded Perform International, a leading choir and orchestra tour company which brings choirs and orchestras all over the world on tours and to international festivals. Zoe says: “Limerick is an ideal base for me to use to bring visiting choirs to Ireland because the city offers great music venues and an attractive centre for touring the many attractions of the west of Ireland. And of course, access is so easy through Shannon airport.”

Founding Festival Chairman, Ronan Brannigan, says that: “Limerick is ideal as a choral festival venue because it is easy to engage the support of local choirs to participate and welcome international choirs giving them a special experience in our city. We are delighted to be joined by so many Limerick choirs who will join the visiting choirs in performance and social events over the week end.”
