Call for Limerick organisations to apply for funding to promote sport and arts in the community

Limerick organisations are being encouraged to apply for funding under the latest call-out from the Social Innovation Fund Ireland (SIFI). The Sports to Impact and Arts to Impact Funds 2020 are now open for applications.

SIFI was set up by the government to find and back innovative solutions to critical social issues around the country.  SIFI was established to fill the gap in funding innovation in the non-profit sector.  Just as innovation is important to economic growth, we believe that innovation is crucial to solving Ireland’s social problems.

Cllr Michael Sheahan, Mayor of the City and County of Limerick, said, “These two funding streams can provide important funding for projects in Limerick and I would encourage all those eligible to apply for it. Innovation needs to be key in the provision of services nowadays, so if you have a novel or unusual idea why not see if it can be developed.”

SIFI’s purpose is to support the best non-profits, charities and social enterprises in Ireland so that they can grow and reach more people who will benefit from their crucial work.

The Sports to Impact and Arts to Impact Funds 2020 have been created by Social Innovation Fund Ireland (SIFI) in partnership with the Department of Rural and Community Development. The Department provides match funding for all philanthropic funds raised by SIFI, via the Dormant Accounts Fund.

The goal of the Sports to Impact Fund is to support the innovative use of sports as a means to improve physical and mental health and to promote social inclusion for children, adolescents and adults.

The judges are looking for innovative projects or programmes that focus on using sports as a means to create a positive social impact in the lives of individuals and in communities across Ireland.

The goal of the Arts to Impact Fund is to support the innovative use of arts and culture as a means to improve skills development and to promote social inclusion for children, adolescents, and adults.

Projects can focus on prevention or intervention, in order to develop or improve creative, cognitive, social and emotional skills and other specific learning outcomes.

Meanwhile, The Bookseed Project, run by Children’s Books Ireland, was awarded funding through the Arts to Impact Fund 2019. The project aims to raise awareness of the benefits of early reading and to ensure that families in Limerick have access to high quality children’s books.

The project will gift three books to babies in six areas of Limerick city and county before their first birthdays and will promote local library services to parents.  It was one of seven winners in the funding stream, while three projects received funding under Sports to Impact.

The deadline for applications for the 2020 call is Wednesday January 22 2020 at 5pm.
