Limerick Sports Partnerships (LSP) Inaugural Golf Classic Fundraiser for Youth Leaders and Coaches

Limerick Hurler Tom Morrissey has launched Limerick Sports Partnerships (LSP) Inaugural Golf Classic Fundraiser, which will take place on Thursday, May 2, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm and Friday, May 3, 9:00 am to 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm. This programme aptly titled Voluntary Inspired Participation (VIP) gives 35 Transition Year students the opportunity to complete a year-round training and mentoring programme where they achieve 14 nationally certified NGB coaching qualifications.

The programme is growing from strength to strength annually which is evident from the 260 applications that were received this year.  All applicants are given the opportunity to attend for interview.

The 35 successful applicants will deliver 100 hours of voluntary coaching back into their schools, clubs and communities.

The TY’s journey on the programme is as much about personal development as well as obtaining such a vast array of coaching qualifications.

This programme has been developed by LSP Sports Development Officer, Tracy Mahedy who stated: “The programme assists in developing very practical life skills and organisational abilities that can support the students in their educational, sporting and future careers.  The coaching and volunteering hours delivered by the VIPs can have a conservative Benefit in Kind costing of over €50,000 annually.  This programme helps us develop young leaders across many communities throughout Limerick.”

Sports Coordinator Phelim Macken stated that the programme “is an excellent addition to our annual Operational Plan.  Having young people as peer mentors and coaches are very motivating to engage others to participate in sport and physical activities.  The work of the LSP is enhanced due to having an excellent pool of talented young volunteer coaches to assist with our mass participation events.”

The inaugural LSP Golf Classic will take place in Limerick Golf Club.  A team of 3 entry is €250 including dinner.  To book a Tee Time and for all enquiries please contact Phelim Macken at 0872079172 or [email protected]
