Limerick Students Win Nationwide Art Competition
A Limerick student has won first place first place in the All Ireland Scholarship poster design competition. Meryl Jose, a 17 year old student at Castletroy College was the overall winner in the secondary school category. The competition, which was launched last September invited second and third level students to design a poster to promote the All Ireland Scholarships, a scheme sponsored by JP McManus that provides financial assistance for 3rd level students across the country.
Meryl fought off competition from over three hundred students from across the 32-counties of Ireland who took part in the competition.
Another Limerick Student, Rachel Clancy from Corbally, who attends Limerick School of Art and Design won second place in the third level category. Meryl received a prize fund of €3,000 and Rachel won €1,250.

Commenting on the competition, Sponsor JP McManus said; “We were delighted with the high standard of entries to the competition. All the students demonstrated their understanding of the financial benefits associated with the All Ireland Scholarships and the “all Ireland” aspect of the scheme. Congratulations to all those who entered and we look forward to continuing the competition and making it an annual event in schools and colleges throughout the country.
Sponsored by JP McManus, the All-Ireland Scholarship scheme was established in 2008 to provide financial assistance for deserving students across Ireland.
The value of each scholarship is set at €6,750 per annum in Ireland and stg£5,500 per annum in Northern Ireland and by September, 620 scholarships will have been awarded over a four year period. One hundred scholarships per year are made available across the 26 counties, with a minimum of two scholarships to be awarded in each county and 25 scholarships are available across the six northern counties giving a total of 125 scholarships each year.
