Limerick Swimming Club, with it’s long tradition of producing excellent young competitive swimmers, such as Rio 2016 Olympian Fiona Doyle, continued it’s success at the beginning of December with qualifications for the National Short Course Championships in Lisburn, County Antrim.
A 22-strong squad, many of whom also train with the UL High-Performance squad, headed north for 3 days of intense competition with strong hopes for medals.
The winning relay team done well to achieve their win in a weekend that saw thirteen records broken in Irish swimming
“Limerick Swimming Club aims to foster and develop competetive swimming in the Limerick area, and through this promote the development of physical, moral and social qualities for our members, in accordance with current best practice in the sport.”
Fiona Doyle represented Ireland in the Rio 2016 Olympics, competing in two swimming events at the games this past Summer; the 100m and 200m breaststroke which had the whole of Limerick supporting her.
Fiona Doyle more recently represented Ireland in the World Shortcourse Swimming Championships in Canada last week along with fellow Ireland representative Jordan Sloan.
The past member of Limerick Swimming Club won heat four of the 50m Breaststroke in 30.77 seconds, she finished 17th overall and missed out on the semi-final by just .07 of a second.
Limerick Swimming Club was founded in 1986 when a number of local swimming clubs came together to form a competitive club, where all local swimmers could compete as one team.
