Limerick City Tidy Towns’ Monthly Award for February 2019 goes to Bakehouse 22

Limerick City Tidy Towns have presented their monthly award for February 2019 to recently refurbished Bakehouse 22 on Nicholas Street.  Pictured outside the shop being presented with the award by Maura O’Neill of Limerick City Tidy Towns are owners Sheelagh and Mike Tracey (Photo: Conor Owens/ILoveLimerick).

Maura says “With Nicholas Street currently undergoing a welcome rejuvenation, including the ongoing exterior painting project, we were delighted to acknowledge this by giving one of our monthly awards to this recently refurbished yet long established family business, located opposite King John’s Castle in the heart of the city’s historic medieval district.  Sheelagh & Mike have done major changes to their business set up, rebranding and refurbishing this former supermarket to Bakehouse 22. They have transformed the building into an attractive contemporary café while keeping the shop/deli & bakery.  The exterior signage is striking with grey paintwork which still blends perfectly with the medieval buildings nearby ”.

Bakehouse 22 is owned by the Tracey Family who have run a long-established grocery business in Limerick city for over 60 years.  However, it is only since the business was rebranded and the shop re-opened that they have had the capacity to expand that business to now selling not just their renowned delicious baked goods, but also great coffee and fresh food every day in their beautiful, welcoming new cafe, which is perfectly located for locals and tourists to the city.  The new business will also be featured in the Brennan Brothers RTE TV show “At Your Service” in the upcoming season April 2019.  To sample their wonderful food and hospitality, do drop in or for catering bookings for your office or home party, call them on 061 415729 or visit their Facebook page Bakehouse 22 – Traceys.

Bakehouse 22 is Limerick City Tidy Towns’ second winner for 2019, following Mint Boutique’s win in January, and both will be in with the chance of winning this year’s overall prize at their annual event to be held early in 2020.   The overall winner for 2018 has already been selected by an online poll, and all monthly winners have been invited to Limerick Tidy Towns 2019 event to take place on Tuesday 26th February at No 1 Pery Square Hotel, where the winner will be announced and the prize awarded.
