Eighth voluntary rightsizing scheme registration opens for Limerick
The Limerick Rightsizing Scheme announced for Woodlawn Park consists of 15 new apartments
A new Rightsizing Scheme at Woodlawn Park, Ballysimon, Limerick has been announced with registration now open for the 15 new apartments

Limerick City and County Council has announced registration is now open for its new Rightsizing Scheme in partnership with Focus Housing Association.
The scheme which consists of 15 new apartments, is the eighth Righsizing Scheme announced for Limerick City and County.
The Rightsizing scheme is entirely voluntary and the apartments are deisgned to support private homeowners aged 55+ seeking a move to a more manageable property; individuals aged 55+ on the housing waiting list; and current tenants on the housing waiting list seeking a transfer.
This register launch targets private homeowners aged 55+, who own their own home; find their dwelling too large for their needs; and are willing to sell their home on the private market.
Under the scheme, a successful applicant will sell their home on the private market and contribute 25 per cent of the proceeds to Limerick City and County Council. In return, they will receive a lifetime tenancy in a managed older person’s scheme.
Focus Housing Association is committed to providing high-quality housing, enabling people to continue to live independently for as long as possible in their own homes helping residents stay connected with their community.
The new development at Woodlawn Park, Ballysimon offers a mix of one and two-bedroom homes, both ground and first floor. Ground-floor units include a small patio, while first-floor units feature a balcony. Homes will be available from the end of September 2025. With an exception for service animals, pets are not allowed.
Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, said the scheme is “another small example” of how Limerick is leading the way “building communities that work for all stages of life”.
He said, “We want to address both immediate housing needs and lay the groundwork for a prosperous future for all residents – for the people who will enter these homes, this will do just that. We are also then going to be in a position to free up larger family homes, creating a cycle of better housing opportunities for everyone in Limerick. We are continuing to show what’s possible when ambition meets people-focused policy.”
Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cllr Catherine Slattery added, “Woodlawn Park is a well-established residential area and a well-connected part of Limerick’s east side making it an ideal setting for rightsizing. These new homes will offer a great opportunity for individuals looking to move into accommodation that better suits their current needs. I would encourage anyone eligible, and looking to make a move, to consider the benefits this scheme can offer.”
Director of Housing at Limerick City and County Council, Brian Kennedy said, “Limerick City and County Council and Focus Housing Association are committed to empowering residents to live for as long as they possibly can in sustainable, high quality, affordable homes. Our joint ambition is to expand and improve housing options for people over the age of 55. Rightsizing developments are close to public transport, services and activities that are inclusive of age friendly communities. The Council has an informal register of interest of approximately 250 private households enquiring about rightsizing options. We are confident that there is significant latent demand for rightsizing schemes.”
The closing date for receipt of applications from eligible candidates over the age of 55 is 5pm Friday 22nd August 2025.
Candidates who submit a full application with supporting documentation will be assessed to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements. Limerick City and County Council will hold a panel of approved candidates in excess of the number of available properties in case a selected candidate’s circumstances change, and they are unable to accept the offer.
